Acheron was a clandestine, multidisciplinary research programme headquartered in the Carpathian Mountains, formed by a coalition of nine private research entities. Active during the early BLACKSPACE exploration era, Acheron was responsible for a range of pioneering scientific breakthroughs, most notably the discovery and initial exploration of BLACKSPACE.

Formation

Established under classified parameters, Acheron’s foundational goal was the investigation of anomalous phenomena detected in the Carpathian region. The programme integrated multiple disciplines, and through a cooperative research framework, aimed to map and extract usable knowledge.

Discovery of BLACKSPACE

On ██-██-████ GA, Acheron successfully made first contact with BLACKSPACE, an act that catalysed an era of radical scientific discovery. All findings were immediately classified, with dissemination withheld from both local and international authorities. The existence of BLACKSPACE, as well as the discoveries associated with it, remained a closely guarded secret within the confines of the Acheron structure.

Ashen Winter Incident

On ██-██-████ GA, Acheron, under the direction of Mihaela Rebreanu, initiated direct contact with an entity referred to as the Maniac. Although initially described as cooperative and instrumental in the expansion of BLACKSPACE-related knowledge, this contact is now regarded as a critical misstep. Subsequent events, directly attributed to this interaction, culminated in the Ashen Winter Incident. The incident resulted in the permanent deactivation of Acheron.

Legacy

Despite its eventual downfall, the data infrastructure and catalogued research of Acheron remain of critical importance. Its archives and surviving systems now serve as foundational assets for both the Pale and the Chromatican City as a whole.
